To Members of the DAV Ch. 3,
I am writing this a a Past
Commander of the chapter.
In little over a month we
will have first nominations
for Chapter Officers. At our
monthly meetings we have
been averaging 8-9 members
in attendance. Commander
Welsh is on "Leave of
Absence" due to poor health,
so it is doubtful if he will
throw his hat in the ring
for any position. The SVC
resigned for non attendance
and health reasons.
Hopefully our JVc Ted Reyes
will stay on in one of the
chair positions. There are
certain positions we have to
fill i.e. at least two of
the top three chairs,
secretary and treasurer.
The other positions the The
Commander can appoint when
needed at the monthly
meetings any other positions
needed. There is also the
issue of the RSA mail which
our secretary Sharon handles
and helps pay her salary.
Two members were donating
P1500 per month but due to
their health, this may
cease. If the lack of
support of our members
forces our chapter to close
in the future, that will put
a burden on many veterans
who depend on what we do.
Who would take over the the
control of the meds from the
VA OPC, monitor the
VA van, help veterans
call
VA OPC and VARO on
veterans matters and assist
veterans with
VA claims. The DAV
also has a stock of
prosthetics we loan out to
veterans. Perhaps one of
the other veteran
organizations may take up
the void left by the DAV if
it occurs. This is just
something to think
about. Our Chapter has close
to 300 members so we SHOULD
be able to hand in
there. I am presently the
DAV Chapter 3
Secretary/Treasurer and
Office manager. My health
is marginal mostly due to my
poor eye sight. If we had a
secretary we can count on,
it would surely help. We
are only talking about 4 1/2
hours a day 5-6 days a
week. We could close the
office on Sat, however meds
from OPC comes in on Friday
afternoon for Saturday pick
up by veterans.
Your thoughts are invited.
